Deja Vu

2-0 again tonight in the $5 Double or Nothing Extravaganza! Interesting hands of the night...

Seeing A-A vs. 10-10 all in preflop in the first hand of the night and the flop coming 2-A-A! Quad Aces!

In game 2 I was witness to a flop of QQQd, turn Kd, river Ad, and one player winning a showdown with Jd10d! Royal flush!

Personally, I had another semi-rocky start in game one, but managed to stick around until the money. Only won 3 hands the whole game.

In game 2, I was lucky enough to get the all powerful AA. There was a raise of 3 times the blind to 90 in front of me. I made it 450 to go and shockingly got called! Flop was J83 rainbow and the initial raiser went all-in. I quickly called and he had 99. Double up early to 3000 and the game is that much easier.

Starting Money: $20
Games Played: 21
Record: 17-4
Current Money: $85

  1. So how is the mindset going into these games now? Are you waiting for the day you move up to the next $$ value? Will it change the way you play? Are you anxious or just playing it one game at a time?

    Great record!

  2. The mindset is pretty good...if I play smart! Catching good hands also helps. :-) But, I'm aware that I had lost 3 out of 4 as recently as a few days ago, so I'm trying not to get ahead of myself. In the back of my mind I keep expecting the bottom to fall out of this, but if you play solid poker, that seems to be enough. Stick to what works! Don't try to make too many things happen.

At this level, it appears that for me to do consistently well, I have to wait for premium cards for the first couple of blinds, try to pick up a few pots to get to at least the 1800ish range (starting stack is 1500) and wait for the kamikaze guys who are unbluffable to get whittled down. Once you get down to 7 or 8 players and the blinds are around 50-100 or higher you can start to successfully steal pots with late raises to build your stack. Doesn't always work out that way, but that's the plan. It also helps to double up early!

As for the next level ($10 double or nothing), I'm interested/apprehensive. My success has been pretty good with the $5 games, so I don't really want to jeopardize that. On the other hand, how different is it really going to be? Its only a $5 bump, right? However, you get guys playing $10 games on 4+ screens at a time and they're making $40 an hour which is pretty lucrative (i think!), so maybe the skill level does go up a bit. Will be interesting to find out. And, if I stick to my rules of waiting to get to $100 before moving up, then moving back to $5 games if my overall stack goes down to $80, then I should be alright. I know that only allows 2 games at $100, but its enough to get a taste and see how it is.

3 more wins (with no losses) until I find out!
